It all starts with a conversation.
You tell us how you live, what you love, what you need, what you dream of. Maybe it’s a breezy porch where you sip coffee and watch the marsh wake up. Or a kitchen that hums with family and good food. Or perhaps you just want to walk into your home, take a deep breath, and feel that everything is precisely where it should be.

At Frederick + Frederick, we design homes that fit you, your life, your style, and this Southern place you’ve chosen to call home. We specialize in custom houses made for hot, humid climates like ours. That means smart, resilient design that’s beautiful to live in and built to last. Our homes stay cool and comfortable, even when summer hits its peak. They stand strong through storms. And they sip energy instead of guzzling it.

But more than anything, they feel right.

Because we don’t just design for the climate, we design for you.
Your story shapes every detail. We listen closely, then design with care, crafting spaces that reflect who you are and how you want to live. In the end, you get more than a house. You get a home that welcomes you, supports you, and connects you to the landscape you love.

Let’s start the conversation.

You’re thinking about building, or maybe finally tackling that renovation. It’s exciting… but also a little daunting. Where do you start? How do you pull it all together?

From the moment you reach out, we’re in this with you. We guide you through every step; answering questions, translating ideas, and managing the details so you don’t have to. You’ll never feel like you’re navigating it alone.

We listen closely to what matters to you, and then we design the whole home, inside and out. Our basic services include all the architectural details that make a house work beautifully: cabinetry, lighting, plumbing fixtures, tile, everything that’s built in or attached. If you’d like help beyond that, we also offer interior design as an additional service, guiding you through selections such as furniture, drapes, rugs, and art, so your home feels cohesive and complete.

Behind the scenes, we handle the coordination and approvals; design review board submittals, consultant collaboration, and presentations, so you can stay focused on the big picture: creating a home that reflects you. Our job is to make the process smooth, clear, stress-free and even enjoyable.

We discovered Beaufort by accident in 1989. One stop was all it took, we fell in love with the architecture, the landscape, and the easy rhythm of life. We returned to Alexandria, Virginia, sold our house and business, and moved to Beaufort three months later. We know the pull of this place because we felt it ourselves.

For over 35 years, we’ve designed homes that connect people to the Lowcountry, its beauty, its climate, and its deep sense of place. We put our clients first, building lasting relationships and creating houses that fit their lives and thrive in the Southern heat and humidity.

We don’t just design buildings, we create homes with soul. We pay attention to every detail, drawing on the region’s vernacular traditions while designing for the future. We want our clients to feel the same connection to the Lowcountry that brought us here decades ago, to hear the breeze in the live oaks, watch the light dance on the water, and truly feel at home.

Our work stands out for its timeless design, thoughtful craftsmanship, and lasting resilience. We’re proud to share what we’ve learned in our upcoming book, Contemporary Southern Vernacular: Creating Sustainable Houses for Hot, Humid Climates. It captures the approach we bring to every project—design that’s personal, sustainable, and built to flourish in the challenging beauty of the South.
