Benjie Morillo, AIA

Project Architect

Benjie brings a spark to every project, a fresh perspective, a bold idea, a beautifully drawn sketch that makes you feel the design before it’s even built. He has a gift for solving complex spatial puzzles in ways that are both practical and poetic, always with a strong sense of character.

What Benjie’s especially good at is visual storytelling. With a background in fine art and architecture, he sees design as both a technical craft and a creative expression. He earned his undergraduate degree in fine art before completing his Master of Architecture at SCAD, and that foundation continues to shape his approach. His hand-drawn sketches and watercolors are more than just beautiful, they’re tools for communicating warmth, soul, and intention.

You’ll see that talent come through in the early stages of design. Whether he’s shaping the concept or drawing a section through a staircase, Benjie brings form and function together with clarity and heart. He helps clients understand not just what their house will look like, but why it will feel right.

The difference? Clients feel more connected to the design process from the very beginning. They can see themselves in the spaces, get excited about what’s coming, and feel confident in the choices being made. His drawings spark meaningful conversations and ensure the design reflects not just a program, but a personality.

Benjie is also deeply involved in the community. As Chair of the City of Beaufort Planning Commission, he champions thoughtful, diverse architecture that enhances walkability, respects history, and supports a sustainable future. He also serves as Awards Director on the Board of AIA South Carolina, where he helps highlight and celebrate design excellence across the state.

Outside the studio, you might find him painting Lowcountry scenes, paddle-boarding the tidal creeks, making music videos with friends, or restoring his vintage sailboat with the same care he brings to his architectural work.

Around the office, Benjie is known for his creativity, and generous spirit. For clients, he brings a sense of discovery and delight, reminding us all that good design is both a craft and a joy.
