Tom Rhodes, AIA, LEED AP
Project Architect
Tom’s the guy who brings your vision to life, piece by piece, detail by detail. With a background in construction and a deep understanding of how buildings actually go together, he’s the one who makes sure what’s on paper becomes something real, beautiful, and built to last.
What Tom’s especially good at is translating big ideas into precise, buildable plans. He has a sharp eye for how things fit, literally. Whether he’s refining a tricky roofline or designing a custom millwork detail, he knows how to make it work.
You’ll see that skill in action in his drawings, which bring designs to life in a way that’s easy to understand. Clients can visualize their future home. Contractors know exactly what to build. Review boards move faster because everything is clear.
And the difference it makes? The process stays smooth. There are fewer surprises in the field. Questions get answered before they turn into problems. And the finished house reflects the original design, down to the smallest detail.
Tom also shines during construction. He’s deeply involved in administration throughout the build, visiting the site, collaborating with contractors, and working through changes in real time. When challenges come up (as they always do), he brings a calm, thoughtful presence and a knack for finding the right solution quickly.
He’s especially drawn to the finishing touches, the exact placement of a light switch, the subtle reveal on a baseboard, the way cabinet hardware lines up just right. These are the quiet details that elevate a home and give it a sense of refinement and character.
Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, Tom earned his Bachelor of Science in Design from Clemson (go Tigers!) and a Bachelor of Architecture from UNC Charlotte. He joined Frederick + Frederick in 2013 and also brings his design expertise to the Town of Port Royal Design Review Board.
Around the office, Tom is known for his clarity, precision, and ability to make even the most complex details feel approachable. For clients, that means confidence that the design they love will be built exactly the way they imagined.
