Contemporary Dogtrot

Contemporary. Resilient. Energy Efficient.

As a pilot and a flight attendant with decades of global travel behind them, our clients were ready to put down roots. They came to us with a clear vision: to build their long-awaited forever home, a peaceful, energy-efficient retreat that honored their Southern roots while telling the story of a life well-traveled. Starting with our Camellia plan, they wanted a house that felt modern and personal, with space to display their collection of antiques gathered from years abroad.

We collaborated closely to reshape the layout to suit their lifestyle, reworking the entry and expanding both the primary and guest suites. We also designed a garage that was both practical and well-integrated with the home’s clean lines. Sited on a high, wooded lot overlooking Battery Creek, the house embraces the principles of the classic Southern dogtrot, open to the breeze and oriented for natural comfort.

Contemporary Comfort

Inside, we kept the palette simple and serene to let their antiques shine. Jane worked closely with them to thoughtfully place each piece so that their home would reflect their story, not just their style. The primary suite features a striking burst of tropical joy with bold C.W. Stockwell Martinique wallpaper and matching drapery, seamlessly blending the indoors with the lush outdoors.

Outcomes

This home is more than a place to live, it’s a peaceful landing after years in the air. It offers the calm and connection they were looking for, wrapped in comfort and surrounded by reminders of their adventures. It’s a home where they can rest, reflect, and start a new chapter, one that’s grounded, joyful, and entirely their own.
