Contemporary T-House: An Addition
Contemporary T-House
The Contemporary T-House, a custom design by Frederick + Frederick, was completed in 2016. When the current owners fell in love with the house, they wanted to add a bit of extra room and make the house their own. We were excited to show the house during the Historic Beaufort Foundation’s annual Architect’s Tour this past weekend. It was a delight to see tour-goers appreciate the unique design of this home. A huge shout-out to Steven Jeffcoat Builders for their incredible work, as the owners finished moving in just the day before the tour began!
The original house was the classic Beaufort T shaped plan, a vernacular form common throughout the Lowcountry. Residential Design Magazine featured the T-house, read that article here.
The new owners expanded the home by adding a new exercise room between the existing house and garage, as well as adding a new living room and sitting room where the patio was before (see the brown hatched area on the site plan). These additions create a more graceful entry and provide a private sitting area as part of the primary suite. Additionally, a new patio and stairs were built and the primary bathroom was reconfigured with updated finishes and fixtures. Above the new living and sitting rooms, a new upper deck was created, this is a lovely spot for birdwatching over the tidal creek behind the house.
