On The Boards: Spring Island Dogtrot

Spring Island Dogtrot

We’ve started work on a new house set on a wooded lot on Spring Island, overlooking “Two-Pipe Pond.” While the pond’s name may lack romance, the setting more than makes up for it—with towering trees, abundant wildlife (including gators!), and all the natural beauty the Lowcountry has to offer. The plan draws inspiration from the traditional dogtrot vernacular form. A single-story dogtrot, garage, and guest house are arranged as separate buildings around a central courtyard. These smaller, distinct massings create a relaxed, natural character, helping the home feel deeply rooted in its site.

Update to Hilton Head Island Design:

Last month we shared this Hilton Head Island Renovation. Since then, we’ve completed renderings for the Plans Review Board at Port Royal Plantation — I just love how these turned out! Watercolors are wonderful for schematic design, but as the project evolves, renderings are a great tool to show the finishes and colors in a more realistic way.
