Beaufort is a city on Port Royal Island, one of South Carolina’s coastal Sea Islands. It’s known for its antebellum mansions built by the wealthy plantation owners before the Civil War. Beaufort was occupied by Union troops on the 6th day of the Civil War. The Union officers moved in and Beaufort's houses we saved.
