The McMillen's house was originally built in the 1970's in the historic district of Beaufort. In the early 2000s we renovated the kitchen and added a small bedroom addition. Then in 2009, while the homeowner's were away, the house was struck by lightening. It burned beyond repair and we were able to correct many of the flaws (such as 8' ceilings) in the original house when we redesigned and rebuilt. We had to stay within the original footprint to meet the zoning. We added a third story in the roof, created the dramatic staircase and made the master bedroom suite more functional.
