Carol and Larry Murphy’s site had a spectacular vaulted space created by the tremendous live oaks. The concept was to use the newly built forms to reinforce this exterior room. Placing the house in the trees necessitated the use of a timber pile foundation. We were able to auger 10” holes between roots and then drive pilings that provide an extremely sturdy support while not impacting the health of the trees. Lots of glass walls that open onto porches and the raised first floor give all the rooms a feeling of being in a tree house.
