Jane Frederick, AIA, LEED AP, Firm Principal

Jane’s professional architectural experience is as varied as it is unique. Jane believes that sound design begins with careful planning that takes into account the lifestyle of the owners as well as environmental, historical and cultural considerations of the region and careful analysis of the site. Such considerations add lasting value to a home, its surroundings, and the homeowners' quality of life.

Jane earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University in 1982 and is currently licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. She is also certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Accredited Professional. Prior to moving to Beaufort, SC, Jane was sole proprietor of Jane Frederick, Architect in Alexandria, VA. She and her husband, Michael founded Frederick + Frederick Architects in 1989. Michael does most of the preliminary work and site design. Jane ensures that ideas get the best implementation, use the right materials, and have the extra quality that perfect balance of color, material and proportion give a space. Their key to great design is their ability to listen to clients’ desires and produce a space that makes someone's daily events more enjoyable. This husband and wife architect team hears their client and the result becomes a product that is better than the sum of the parts.

Frederick + Frederick have been celebrated with numerous awards including three ‘Honor Awards’ in the Robert Mills Residential Design Award competition, granted by the American Institute of Architects’ South Carolina Chapter, the Hilton Head Homebuilders’ ‘Lighthouse Award’ for best kitchen, and ‘Best Home’ for Metropolitan Magazine, among others.

In addition to her design prowess, Jane also possesses a unique understanding of regional, historical and cultural contexts, as reflected by her activities in local, state, and national civic and professional organizations. Through her voluntary efforts, Frederick + Frederick Architects enjoy an uncommonly current and knowledgeable position within the industry; an edge that often benefits both the firm and its clients.
