Jane Frederick, FAIA, LEED AP

Jane Frederick, FAIA, LEED AP, a ninth-generation Southerner, is a licensed architect in Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Jane’s architectural designs are influenced by her fascination with how her forbearers lived in harmony with the harsh southern climate: her great-great grandmother operated a ferry boat across the Escatawpa River in Mississippi and her great-great grandparents  lived in a dogtrot-style house in Alabama.

In 1989, Jane and her husband, Michael, established Frederick + Frederick Architects in Beaufort, South Carolina, a hot, humid town. The firm, residential design specialists, have intensively studied Southern vernacular traditions and the advances in building detailing for hot, humid climates; as a result, it create comfortable houses that fit the Southern landscape, climate, culture, and client.

Jane received her Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University. She is a Fellow in the Aspen Global Leadership Network and was the 2010 President of The American Institute of Architects South Carolina.

She was appointed to the inaugural AIA National Small Firm Round Table executive committee and is the 2012 chairman. Jane serves as a visiting team chair for the National Architectural Accreditation Board, which accredits all the architectural schools in the United States. She is the former chair of both the S.C. State Board of Architectural Examiners and the Southern Conference of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. She served on various committees over nine years in writing the National Architectural Exam. Jane writes a monthly architecture column for the Hilton Head Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette .
